Very rare teacher’s desk designed by Arne Jacobsen in the early 1950’s.
The desk features a stainless steel base combined with a bent-plywood top, beneath which two integrated drawers are concealed. The design is simple yet highly sophisticated, and immediately recognisable as an Arne Jacobsen piece.
This desk was created specifically for the interior of the Munkegård School, a project for which Arne Jacobsen was commissioned as architect. In the 1950s, it was common for architects to design not only the building but also the complete interior and furnishings, and that is also what Jacobsen did with the Munkegård School. The desk was intended for the teachers and originally stood at the front of each classroom.
Although no official production records exist, several sources suggest that only 24 were ever made (one for each classroom) making this desk an exceptionally rare and highly desirable collector’s piece.
