Product description
This is a pressed crystal bowl on a foot from Scailmont, model XL (28 cm wide) dating to the Art Deco period (1930). The piece features intricate geometric and fan-shaped patterns, characteristic of the era’s bold yet elegant aesthetic. The pedestal base and scalloped rim enhance its refined appearance, making it both a functional serving piece and a decorative object. It will always delight you during Christmas, Easter, or any personal celebration, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. Scailmont Glassworks in Manage The founder of this glassworks was none other than Henri-Raphaël Hirsch, who had established the “Saint-Laurent Glassworks” a few years earlier. Thus, on September 26, 1901, the “S.A. des Verreries de Scailmont” (Scailmont Glassworks Company) was created. Hirsch partnered, among others, with Mr. Fernand Boursier, who was then the mayor of the municipality of Manage, and Mr. Victor Lechien, the municipal secretary (who would later become mayor). The company’s purpose was the manufacture and sale of crystal and semi-crystal. The share capital was set at 185,000 francs. Mr. Hirsch remained in management until 1908, after which he was succeeded by Mr. Georges Sacré, who remained in charge until his death in 1952. The succession was taken over by his son-in-law, Mr. Théophilus Vercoutere, followed by his son, Pierre Vercoutere. By 1930, the company employed 800 workers. Essentially a family business, it was strongly influenced by the powerful personality of Mr. Georges Sacré, a true master glassmaker in every sense of the term. On March 14, 1972, the company was placed under judicial concordat by decision of the first chamber of the Charleroi Commercial Court. The industrial buildings were sold on February 9, 1978, to S.A. Verreries du Hainaut. Some bubbles and small imperfections are normal in items made of pressed glass. Will be well packaged and protected.
