Vintage Venetian Murano lantern featuring a hand-blown opaline glass bulb encased in a decorative black wrought iron cage. The use of opaline glass, a milky glass made translucent with the addition of oxides or phosphates, is a traditional technique, particularly famous for Murano objects. Dating from the 1950s, it combines the craftsmanship of Murano glass with the robustness of wrought metal. Milky white opaline glass (also known as lattimo glass) and wrought iron. The glass features an internal swirl pattern that adds depth and character, while the shaped iron cage features decorative curlicues.
