A small object that, on its own, encapsulates an entire era: when Vallauris became one of the great centers of French ceramics and workshops freely reinvented familiar household items. This chamberstick reprises the ancient form of the candlestick once carried from room to room, but here, tradition is completely upended by the aesthetics of the 1960s. The long, generously sculpted handle, the circular cup, and the central well designed to hold the candle compose a silhouette that is both rustic and resolutely modern. The decoration is particularly warm. A deep, glossy brown serves as a backdrop for ruby red hues, while frothy white, turquoise, and sea-green enamels freely spread across the cup and onto the handle. The firing effects give each part a different texture and nuance, characteristic of the exploration of enamels that largely defined the character of Vallauris ceramics after the war. The piece bears the handwritten inscription "Vallauris" on its base. It shows two slight impacts on the edges, traces of its history that do not detract from its very beautiful decorative effect. An authentic little piece from Vallauris, full of character and representative of the creative effervescence of the workshops on the French Riviera during the 1960s. Cup diameter approximately 10 cm.
