Product description
Set of 5 Antique Val Saint Lambert Crystal Champagne Flutes – “Théodora” Service (Catalogue 1904–1905) A refined set of five antique crystal champagne flutes from the celebrated Théodora service by Val Saint Lambert, one of Belgium’s most prestigious crystal manufacturers. This elegant pattern is documented in the factory’s original 1904–1905 catalogue, confirming its authenticity and placing the set firmly within the Belle Époque period. Each flute is handcrafted from fine crystal and decorated with delicate hand-cut engraving. The restrained geometric motif around the lower part of the bowl beautifully catches the light while preserving an understated elegance. The graceful proportions and timeless silhouette make these glasses remarkably versatile, complementing both traditional and contemporary interiors with equal sophistication. Like all high-quality antique crystal produced at the beginning of the 20th century, these glasses were made individually by skilled craftsmen rather than industrially. As a result, slight variations in height, stem thickness, wall thickness, or overall proportions may be present. These subtle differences are entirely normal and are considered a hallmark of authentic handmade antique crystal, adding character and individuality to each piece. A wonderful opportunity to own an elegant and historically documented service by Val Saint Lambert—perfect for collectors of fine European crystal or for those who appreciate bringing genuine antique craftsmanship to the modern table. Condition: Very good antique condition with light wear consistent with age and careful use. Minor manufacturing variations are typical for handmade crystal of this period. Reference: Illustrated in the original Val Saint Lambert 1904–1905 catalogue, Service Théodora Taillé M¹. Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks. The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp. The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics. Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation. Will be well packaged and protected
