Folding Desk
Empire – Biedermeier Style
Flower-Carved Veneer
This is an antique, unrestored desk, made of mahogany with details of other veneers and a felt writing surface.
The piece has a classic valfront desk design, with a green felt writing surface and a beautiful interior with several small drawers. The inner drawers are contrasting, giving the interior an elegant, historical character.
The sleek, minimalist design, emphasizing the beautiful grain pattern of the wood veneer (flower-carved), is characteristic of both the late Empire period and the subsequent Biedermeier style, which was popular around 1840.
Type: It is a so-called 'secretaire à abattant' or folding desk, meaning that the top panel can be folded down to reveal a writing surface and often an interior with small drawers.
There is also a wide drawer at the top of the crest.
