In the early 1960s, the chemist bayer developed a polyurethane foam based on a new resin, making it easy to create a variety of shapes. By the middle of the decade, Italian design publisher c&b had seized on and invested in the possibilities offered by this development. The company suggested that Gaetano Pesce, interested in new technologies and the potential they offered, experiment with this material: he developed the "serie up". The first editions had no load-bearing structure and were made from a single block, simplifying transport of the seat. Its volume was reduced by compressing it under vacuum in an airtight package. Once in place, the purchaser removed the packaging from the seat, which gently inflated to its original shape and size, thanks to the air that penetrated the polyurethane foam cells. Originally produced by C&B, it was withdrawn from the catalog in 1973 due to the presence of Freon gas. It reappeared in 2000, manufactured in bayfit and marketed by B&B italia. The internal structure is made of polyurethane foam in two one-piece sections. In good condition, completely reupholstered in our workshop.
