A magnificent and rare set of nine authentic ceramic wall tiles (20 x 20 cm) from the early Art Deco period. These Spanish tiles are from the Valencia and Onda regions. These tiles are a beautiful example of the Egyptian Revival (Egyptian Revival), a style that became extremely popular in the interwar period, partly due to the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922.
Design & Details:
The tiles are decorated using a typical stencil technique, using what the Spanish call "trepas"—cardboard stencils of different colors, which are placed one by one on the tile and then colored by hand. The tiles feature a refined polychrome glaze in relief. The profile of an Egyptian figure (Cleopatra) is centrally located, framed by a geometric circle, and the iconic Eye of Horus is depicted in the corners. The color combination of deep blue, terracotta, green, and ochre is typical of the colorful aesthetic of that period.
