The chair was designed for the Holland America Line for the cruise ship Nieuw Amsterdam to serve as a deck chair.
Gispen began producing this armchair in 1937 and continued until 1966.
This chair model is part of the applied arts collection of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
