The chair was designed for the Holland America Line for the cruise ship Nieuw Amsterdam to serve as a deck lounger.
In 1937, this armchair was put into production by Gispen and was produced until 1966.
This model chair is included in the applied art collection of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
