Highly decorative, original wooden casting molds for the iron industry
7 molds: the round molds measure 35, 31, 26, 17, and 13 cm
The other two molds measure 27 and 22 cm
The molds are placed in molding sand, creating a negative shape that, once hardened, is suitable for casting iron objects.
These molds can also be seen in the industrial museum of the former DRU iron foundry in Ulft.
These are truly iconic products from industrial production. Casting molds are the male wooden plugs made by hand to replicate the shape being cast. The mold is then packed in casting sand, creating a female mold ready for pouring molten steel or iron. To this day, most foundries still use this process, and some of the wooden plug molds are simply the most stunning sculptural objects.
