Chimney Vase / Fireplace Vase / Hole Vase with Fat Lava Decor
This extraordinary vase lamp was created from an original Übelacker ceramic vase, model 7444/18, from the West German Pottery period. Its very form makes it a special find: it is a so-called chimney vase, whose characteristic opening is not centered, but slightly offset to the side of the sculptural vase body.
The strictly rectangular shape is broken up by the asymmetrical opening, giving it the appearance of a small architectural or ceramic object. The unusual glaze is particularly beautiful: a cloudy, speckled texture in delicate shades of pink, gray, and cream is distributed across the light background. It lends the rectilinear vase a soft, almost organic surface.
I combined it with a cylindrical lampshade made from a large-format botanical fabric. Lush leaves in brown, violet, pink, and vibrant yellow overlap on a dark background. When switched off, the pattern appears rich and graphic; when switched on, the delicate leaf veins, in particular, begin to glow intensely. The understated rose tones of the ceramic are echoed in the fabric, uniting the vase and shade into a harmonious whole.
A special feature of this lamp is its wireless lighting technology with various light colors. In addition to different shades of white, colored lighting moods can also be selected. Depending on the setting, the lamp changes dramatically: Blue, red, or violet light not only emanates from under the shade but also alters the appearance of the fabric and ceramic. Thus, a single table lamp transforms into a new lighting display time and time again.
The rechargeable LED light source is conveniently charged via USB-C. Brightness and light color can be adjusted using the included remote control. Without a bothersome cable, the lamp can be placed freely in the room – on sideboards, side tables, or windowsills, as well as on the dining table, balcony, or patio.
Like all vase lamps, this unique piece was also crafted without pre-drilled holes. This is particularly important with this unusual Übelacker Chimney Vase: the original ceramic remains completely intact, and the modification is reversible. The slightly off-center original vase opening remains a visible feature of the design and underscores its sculptural character.
