Rare and authentic pair of Burmese Buddhist monk statues in prayer, dating from the 19th century. Hand-carved in wood, lacquered, and gilded, they depict the monk in a posture of devotion, his hands clasped in Anjali Mudra, a gesture of profound prayer and humility.
The details are exquisitely crafted, notably a golden robe inlaid with glass or precious stones, testifying to the traditional Burmese craftsmanship of the Konbaung dynasty (1752-1885). The delicate fingers, serene expression, and graceful posture highlight exceptional artistry, characteristic of temple sculptures.
Please note that the wood has warped in some areas of one sculpture, revealing small cracks, evidence of its age.
Dimensions of each statue: 54 x 17 cm, height 22 cm. Carefully packaged for shipping.
