Two hand-carved wooden bowls, acquired in 1979/1980 and kept ever since. Presented separately, they appear as two elegantly carved bowls. Nested one inside the other, they reveal an exterior decoration—a network of incised lozenges and a precise frieze of triangles running along the rim, an ornamental vocabulary characteristic of the Luguru, Hehe, or Tabwa peoples of the border region between Congo and Tanzania (East Africa). The deep reddish-purple hue and the authentic patina of use—visible in the hollows of the carving where ochre earth has accumulated over the decades—are entirely in the style of Jean Touret (see last photo). Oval bowl: diameter 24 cm / height 10 cm / weight 450 g. Round bowl: diameter 22.5 cm / height 9 cm / weight 608 g.
