ORIGINAL BAUHAUS !
Very exclusive design floor lamp designed by Max Bill.
Swiss Architect, graphic designer, painter and industrial designer Max Bill (1908-1994) is best known as the most successful student of the Bauhaus in Dessau and as co-founder of the Design school in ULM Germany. His influential designs from 1950 to many decades later are a perfect example of the abstract architectural style in which concrete plays a major role, this new building took off in post-war Europe.
Between 1924 and 1927, he worked as a silversmith before joining Bauhaus in Dessau, he studied there from 1927 to 1929, during these 2 years he took classes from great names such as Josef Albers and Paul Klee.
After graduation he moved to Zurich where he worked as an architect, painter and graphic designer.
In 1932 Bill designed and built his own house and studio in Zurich, he also joined the Abstraction Création Artist movement in Paris and got to know Piet Mondrian, among others. He exhibits his work for the first time in 1933.
He drew for many iconic designs in many fields, from chairs to clocks and from entire neighborhoods to watches many of the designs were also very innovative in terms of production technique and material possibilities.
Even this tulip lamp, in addition to being an incredibly clever design, in all its simplicity, is nevertheless a very complex form to execute.
It is very fragile and thin right after the base, and only then tapers to the "bud" exactly like a real flower. Designing this shape may seem simple and very natural, but it presents great challenges precisely in production.
Shaping the metal in such a way that it remains elegant and yet also stable demonstrates a very high degree of craftsmanship within all disciplines of industrial design.
The lamp offered here is a world-famous and valued
design piece and appears in leading publications and is included in various museum collections.
On the international market this model rarely comes up for sale and prices are in the mid 1500 range for a complete lamp with traces of use. Outliers upwards are also common. On 1stDibs there are still some for sale at prices around 3000 euros. This lamp is in a visually and technically excellent condition, used, but very good, therefore priced at the upper end of the price range
We offer this lamp, from the first owner from the Netherlands, for the real lovers and connoisseurs, this real design piece will prove to be a value investment in the future.

About the Design
There's a good reason that the revered Tulip floor lamp by Max Bill (1908-94) looks at once sculptural, painterly and graphic: The Swiss artist behind the elegant fixture was something of a multi-hyphenate talent. Bill was a major proponent of modernist design in Europe and a sculptor whose work has been the subject of exhibitions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Guggenheim. He also worked as an architect, painter, typeface designer and writer. Product design was just one of many things that Bill did well.
Bill created the Tulip lamp for Swiss manufacturer BAG Turgi, a renowned producer of fine lighting from the 1940s to the 1960s, when the Tulip made its debut. The fixture, which is no longer in production, is a modern and graceful interpretation of a classic torchière,an upright style of floor lamp shaped like a torch. Rendered in white, Bill's design - in which the base and lamp are a single continuous piece of enameled metal - takes on an ethereal glow when lit. When it's turned off, the lamp becomes a subtle piece of sculpture.
Bill designed the Tulip lamp after he had concluded his tenure at the Ulm School of Design, an industrial design institution where he was a cofounder, architect and the school's first rector. Inspired by the Bauhaus - where Bill studied under Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee in Dessau - Ulm's founders aimed to further the progressive spirit in postwar Germany through an integration of artistic and scientific practices. With its sculptural form and skillfully concealed mechanical components, the Tulip floor lamp is an apt symbol of such juxtaposition.
