Beautiful earthenware plate with a trompe-l'œil relief decoration of a spider crab, produced in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. A vintage piece from the mid-20th century, 1960s-70s. The highly expressive and naturalistic decoration features seashells, seaweed, and a textured background, in a rich polychromy typical of this manufacturer, reminiscent of Bordallo Pinheiro's work. Diameter 25cm, height approximately 7cm. In very good overall condition; a small, discreet chip on the back, not visible from the front. Approximately 1.5kg.
