This pair of armchairs is attributed to TON, one of Czechoslovakia's most prolific mid-century furniture manufacturers, dating from the 1960s. The chairs are built from solid beech with a spindle-slat backrest, gently curved boomerang arms, and splayed turned legs, a construction language typical of Czech design from this period. With a 60 cm width, 70 cm depth, 79 cm height, and 42 cm seat height, the pair works well together in a living room or reading corner, whether kept as a set or split between two spaces. Condition and Character Original condition with signs of use. The burgundy patterned upholstery on both chairs shows age-appropriate discoloring and light fading in places, and the beech frames and arms carry scattered surface scratches consistent with decades of handling. The seat suspension is formed of woven elastic straps, visible and intact on the bare frame shown in the photos, and both chairs remain structurally stable and comfortable to sit in as-is. The simple box-cushion construction makes the seat and back pads a straightforward reupholstery project should a new owner wish to refresh the fabric.
