Ton Schulten (Ootmarsum, April 25, 1938, died October 31, 2025) is a Dutch painter.
Ton Schulten was born the son of a baker in Ootmarsum and grew up in a Catholic middle-class family with six children. From 1956, he attended the Academy of Art and Industry in Enschede, where he graduated cum laude in 1962 as a graphic designer and visual artist. After having made a career in the advertising world, Schulten decided in 1989 to dedicate himself entirely to painting. In 1992, he discovered the Twente scenic landscape as a source of inspiration; subsequently, his work became more figurative. In 2004, Ton Schulten's somewhat expressionistic painting style gained a certain degree of recognition when his distinctive style was referred to as "consensism" by art critic Hartmut Rau in a monograph about Schulten.
Schulten works in his birthplace, Ootmarsum, where the 'Museum Ton Schulten' is also located, offering an overview of his work.
