Product description
Exquisite Art Deco dressing table made around 1930 in mahogany. With elegant shapes, this dressing table is configured in two distinct parts: the cabinet itself and the completely circular mirror. Its design is asymmetrical, playing with the sinuosity of the profiles, as well as with the space, with its recesses and projections, and with the light, creating magnificent shadows. On the left, it features three registers with circular bronze handles. Beside it, in a very innovative way, a door is created that goes unnoticed, with a highly curved surface, and a lock and key. The interior is veneered with lemongrass wood in its characteristic yellowish color. This entire section, both the drawers and the door, have a glass top. On the right, below the mirror, are two small shelves. The entire piece of furniture is raised off the floor thanks to a curved pedestal. The structure is made of solid wood veneer with mahogany, with its characteristic tiger grain and reddish color. High-gloss lacquer that enhances the sumptuousness of the piece. If we look at these characteristics (high-quality materials, glossy lacquer, and a sinuous profile), we find similarities with the designs of Jules Leleu. It is a highly decorative and individually functional piece that plays with space. About the Art Deco style Art Deco, short for the French term Arts Décoratifs and sometimes simply called Déco, is a style of visual arts, architecture, and product design that first appeared in France in the 1910s (just before World War I) and flourished especially in the United States, but also in Europe, during the 1920s and 1930s. Art Deco combined modern styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, it represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and a belief in social and technological progress. From its beginnings, Art Deco was influenced by the bold geometric forms of Cubism and the Vienna Secession; the vivid colors of Fauvism and the Ballets Russes; the updated craftsmanship of furniture from the eras of Louis XVI and Louis Philippe I; and the exotic styles of China, Japan, India, Persia, ancient Egypt, and Mayan art. It featured rare and expensive materials, such as ebony and ivory, and exquisite craftsmanship. The Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and other New York City skyscrapers built during the 1920s and 1930s are monuments to the style.
