Exclusive set of two gold bas-reliefs, inspired by the iconic facade relief that has adorned the entrance of the world-famous Folies Bergère revue theater in Paris since 1925. This impressive, towering Art Deco-style artwork was designed by the renowned French architect and interior designer Maurice Picaud, also known as Pico (1900–1977). Picaud’s masterpiece celebrates the essence of the Art Deco movement and captures the opulent, exotic atmosphere of Parisian nightlife in the 1920s.
The artwork, titled "Serpentine Dancer," depicts the famous dancer Lila Nikolska in her graceful movements. Her nude beauty highlights the seductive and daring performances of the Folies Bergère. The abstract swirls and forms surrounding her enhance the dynamism and energy of her dance, giving this work a timeless appeal. The Folies Bergère revue theater, founded in 1869 as a music hall, experienced its heyday in the 1890s until the Second World War. This iconic theater is still in operation.
The set of two gold bas-reliefs consists of one relief in positive and one relief in negative (inverted interpretation). The relief in negative differs from the original Folies Bergère relief because it is hollowed out on the front, creating a slight bulge on the back. Furthermore, the inverted interpretation distinguishes itself by the fact that the dancing woman does not kick to the right, as in the original, but to the left. This unique combination of positive and negative creates a fascinating play of light and shadow, perfect for lovers of Art Deco or French art.
The two bas-reliefs were crafted by a workshop and made after the original relief by Maurice Picaud. Both artworks are in excellent condition and are carefully packed in custom-made wooden crates to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. To guarantee maximum protection, the panels are individually wrapped and shipped. Each panel is fully insured against loss or damage during transport and comes with a track & trace code. The panels are sold without frames.
