This is the iconic 'Toonladder' wall coat rack, designed by Tjerk Reijenga for the Dutch manufacturer Pilastro in the 1950s. The design is an excellent example of post-war Dutch Design, where functionality and a minimalist aesthetic take center stage. The coat rack is crafted from black lacquered metal and features a perforated metal hat shelf in a contrasting white color. The distinctive, movable hooks are executed in the primary colors red, yellow, black, and white, creating a playful and graphic effect reminiscent of the De Stijl movement. The construction consists of a grid of horizontal and vertical lines to which the hooks can be positioned as desired. The object is in good vintage condition, with the original finish and character of the design preserved. The construction is sturdy and fully functional for daily use.
