The Transformer series is one of Piero Lissoni's most recognizable designs for Glas Italia, developed around the concept of controlled deformation of form. Each piece was hand-blown and then intentionally deformed while the glass was still hot; for this reason, the proportions and curvatures are never perfectly identical. This "random" asymmetry has become the collection's distinctive feature.
The objects are made of borosilicate glass, a material traditionally used in the scientific and architectural fields due to its high transparency, thermal resistance, and the ability to create extremely thin walls without compromising its strength. In interior design at this level, these characteristics are fundamental: objects take on an almost graphic appearance, with minimal visual weight and perfectly clear light transmission.
Glas Italia is one of the leading Italian brands in the contemporary glass design sector, collaborating with Piero Lissoni, Patricia Urquiola, Philippe Starck, Tokujin Yoshioka, and other key figures in contemporary design. The company is known for its sophisticated workmanship with glass as an architectural material, ranging from collectibles to museum interior designs and installations created for the Salone del Mobile in Milan.
