Mid-20th Century
This charming set consists of three hand-painted oyster plates made of French earthenware. The plates originate from the renowned Sarreguemines manufactory and exhibit the typical combination of cream-colored glaze, yellow indentations, and hand-painted floral motifs in the center.
Two plates bear the original impressed maker's mark "Sarreguemines" on the back. One plate is unstamped—this is common for French earthenware of this period and frequently occurs within a single set. The shape, glaze, coloring, and workmanship are identical, clearly identifying all three plates as belonging to the same series.
The plates feature indentations around the sides and were originally made as oyster plates, but are equally suitable today as egg plates, serving platters for antipasti, or as decorative objects for the kitchen and table.
