One of the most iconic chairs ever designed: The Round Chair, also known as The Chair or JH501. This chair was designed in 1949 by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Johannes Hansen. The seat is made of hand-woven wicker and the frame is expertly hand-shaped from solid oak. Through a beautiful wood connection, the arm and back are one continuous, semi-circular whole. As a result, there is actually no back to this chair; it is a masterpiece from every angle. Wegner wanted to create a simplified and typically Danish chair with a carefully perfected form and proportion, with The Chair as the result.
A bit of history: the year The Round Chair was designed, an American journalist described the chair as "the most beautiful chair in the world." This was the first time Danish Modern Design was named in the American press. The Round Chair quickly became one of the most sought-after designs in America and provided the beginning of the export of Danish furniture. In 1960, Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy used the chair in their first television debate. The chair was now known in America simply as "The Chair": the archetype of a modern chair.
Marked and in very good condition. The wicker seat has been renewed once.
