Gerard van den berg created the rock sofa in the 70s. Produced by the montis company he founded with his brother ton in 1947. This entity enabled him to realize his desire to breathe new life into Dutch design, an idea he had been nurturing since the start of his apprenticeship in his father's workshop in hellevoetsluis. He continued his apprenticeship at the Rotterdam School of Technology. He takes a great interest in the materials he uses, and can even be said to be at the origin of his creations, when the structure is generally the design epi-center. He generally uses leather, which he stretches over his structures, bringing that finesse that is representative of his style. His years of experimentation enabled the brothers to invent a new upholstery technique known as jacketing, in which a piece of leather is stretched over a metal structure with the aid of a zipper. This process is used for this series in particular, as well as for other models such as the Mantis and the Butterfly. It is no longer produced in its original form, but in a version with a lowered backrest. The structure consists of a metal frame upholstered in foam and covered in black leather. It features a deep seat. Its imposing backrest allows you to zone your space while offering exceptional comfort. In very good condition, entirely reupholstered in our workshop.
