Some objects carry two stories at once. The one they tell, and the one of the child who held them in their hands. This spiral-bound album is volume 3 of the collection « La Plus Belle Histoire des Temps » (The Most Beautiful Story of Times), published by Chocolat Suchard in the 1960s. The principle was simple and brilliant: with every chocolate bar, children were given a sticker to glue into a large illustrated album. The afternoon snack treat became an invitation to time travel. This volume 3, titled « La Bonne Nouvelle » (The Good News), recounts the life of Christ and the origins of Christianity. The golden cardboard pages feature photographic chromo prints and reproductions of old paintings, carefully glued in by a child whose name, school, and address are still visible inside. An intact testament to an era when collecting was a way of life. The printing is signed Draeger, one of the great French printing houses of the 20th century, renowned for the quality of its color reproductions. The internal advertisements for Milka, Bitina, Frutola, and Suchard Or add an extra graphic and documentary dimension. Worn cover, consistent with age and use. Interior well-preserved, chromo prints in place, solid pages. A collector's item for lovers of vintage advertising, chocolate history, 1960s graphic design, and childhood memories.
