The Leaves That Hold Each Other
In the silent world of the Moonlight Garden, leaves do not just grow side by side—they support each other.
In this hand-carved linoleum work, the leaves seem to find and hold onto one another. The mottled leaf gently envelops the white leaf beneath, as if saying: you do not have to be alone here.
The palpable veins, hand-carved into the linoleum, connect the leaves like fine lines of life. The white leaves are constructed using texture paste and a palette knife, making every vein tangible there as well, and the surface almost coming alive under your fingers like a landscape.
The soft, muted green tones and the white give the work the atmosphere of a hidden garden that seems to exist only in silent moonlight.
The Leaves That Hold Each Other is about something universal: that vulnerability does not mean you are alone. That we are sometimes carried without asking for it. And that we, too, in turn, can hold on to another. A serene work about connection. Gentleness and the quiet strength of supporting one another.
Anneke Winterman is a contemporary artist who draws her greatest inspiration from nature. She completed her studies at the Utrecht School of Arts in 2005, specializing in Autonomous Visual Arts. She has participated in group exhibitions and solo exhibitions, and creates both independent work and commissioned pieces.
