A young woman runs barefoot on a grassy field, her blue dress billowing in the wind, her arms outstretched in a movement that wavers between flight and invitation. Behind her, half-hidden in the grass, a masculine face watches her. The scene is both gallant and ambiguous, in the style of 18th-century French taste for amorous games depicted in art. This print is titled "La Fuite à Dessein" (Planned Flight), engraved by C. Massin and J. Couché after a drawing by Fragonard, whose signature appears at the bottom left of the plate. It is dedicated "À Madame la Marquise de Turpin de Crissé" (To Madame the Marchioness of Turpin de Crissé), with the family's coat of arms engraved in the center of the cartouche. The quatrain printed at the bottom of the plate illuminates the subject with the wit characteristic of the Age of Enlightenment: "When you flee your shepherd / Thus displaying your charms / It is less, I believe, to avoid him / Than to lead him to follow in your footsteps." The mention of the publisher Couché, Rue d'Orléans in Paris, dates the publication to the last quarter of the 18th century. The paper is slightly yellowed, with the natural patina of age, without tears or missing parts. The image is clear, the lines precise, the color highlights well preserved. The print is presented under glass in a gilded frame with colored fillets (orange, blue, white), with a white mat. Framed dimensions: approximately 40 x 32 cm. Ready to hang.
