A Danish extendable dining table designed by Henning Kjærnulf and manufactured by Vejle Stole & Møbelfabrik in the 1960s. This piece embodies the refined simplicity of Scandinavian dining furniture — clean lines and a restrained silhouette that maintains its elegance through everyday use.
The construction pairs a teak-veneered top with a frame supported by four solid wood legs. These legs taper downward and merge seamlessly into the frame structure, creating a light, unified profile. The extension mechanism allows the table surface to expand considerably, while additional leaves store in a compartment beneath the top — a practical solution characteristic of Danish tables from this period, keeping extra sections close at hand rather than in a separate location.
Vejle Stole & Møbelfabrik was among the Danish manufacturers that established the international reputation of Danish furniture during the postwar decades. The factory focused on dining furniture, producing Kjærnulf's designs alongside other creators working within the Danish Modern movement. Extendable teak tables and matching chairs became emblematic of functional elegance, responding to evolving domestic life as dining rooms transformed from formal spaces into areas for daily gathering and casual entertaining.
The table comfortably seats four in its compact form, extending to nearly two hundred and forty centimetres to accommodate gatherings of eight or more. It works equally well in a dedicated dining room or within an open-plan living space, where it can serve as the centre of domestic life.
The piece is in good condition, showing minor scratches and small marks consistent with previous use. Small areas of damage have been filled during restoration. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
