The Danish designer and interior architect is considered one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. He transferred the psychedelic aesthetic of Pop Art to the field of interior design. Panton was one of the first designers to use materials such as plastic, foam, and rubber in an innovative way.
Nevertheless, the innovator's designs fell out of fashion as early as the 1970s. Then, in the mid-1990s, triggered by a Vogue cover featuring Kate Moss sitting on a Panton Chair, the artist's work experienced a revival. For example, Der Spiegel reinstalled the "Snackbar" designed by Panton in 1969 in its newly constructed publishing house in Hamburg's HafenCity in 2011.
Verner Panton died in Copenhagen in 1998.
Panton designed the Relaxer floor swing in 1974. The two-person version is very rare.
