Anne Marie David and Paul Lange:
Bohemian and vibrant in the early 1970s, the two designers explored transparent materials to create designer furniture, known as Plexiglas® and Altuglas® (registered PMMA trademarks).
In their workshop at the end of a small Parisian cul-de-sac, the two lovers designed furniture with simple and clean lines. They shaped the prototypes, taking advantage of the material's structure, "acrylic glass," to allow light to enter the furniture.
At the 1972 Ateliers d’Art de France trade fair (now better known as "Maison & Objet"), they presented seven models. The allure of these first transparent furniture pieces, unprecedented in the French design scene, was immediate.
The transparent coffee table, the magazine rack, the nesting tables, the shelf, the dressing table, the two lamps… everything sold out. A few days later, the enthusiasm was so great that they were overwhelmed with orders. Three years passed in this way: they sold furniture, spent it immediately, sold more furniture, went into debt…
