Exceptional Soft Quilted Leather Sofa in Cream Open Grain Leather
A rare and highly tactile expression of Michel Ducaroy’s design language, the Kashima sofa embodies the relaxed, sculptural spirit of 1970s French modernism. Designed for Ligne Roset, it reflects Ducaroy’s ongoing exploration of low seating and organic forms, perfectly suited for interiors that lean towards soft minimalism, Ibizian warmth or refined contemporary spaces.
This particular piece comes from the first owner, originally acquired in 1980 and used as a salon in a secondary residence in France. As a result, the sofa has seen very limited use over time, which clearly reflects in the preservation of the leather and overall structure.
The defining feature of this piece is its exceptional open grain leather in a warm cream tone. The material is unusually soft almost velvety to the touch, enhancing the deep tufted grid construction that gives the Kashima its signature rhythm. Each square is gently padded and pulled, creating a continuous landscape of subtle volume and shadow. The leather shows a natural patina with light tonal variation, adding depth without compromising its clean and serene presence.
Comfort is immediate and inviting. The fully foam constructed body allows the sofa to adapt effortlessly to the sitter, offering a lounge experience that is both supportive and relaxed.
