Studio A.R.D.I.T.I. ‘Prismar’ table lamp for Nucleo Sormani, Italy, 1972
available
This iconic 'Prismar' table or floor lamp is a masterpiece of Italian Space Age design. Crafted for Sormani’s experimental Nucleo division, its five semi-transparent mirrored panels (‘Mirropane’) create an 'infinity' effect when lit, while appearing as a minimalist chrome cube when dark.
Studio A.R.D.I.T.I. was an avant-garde collective that redefined light as a spatial experience. Through the Prismar, they explored "dematerialization”, using reflection to make a solid object seem to disappear into an infinite void. This architectural approach earned the design a place in the permanent collections of the Vitra Design Museum and the Centre Pompidou.
While smaller versions exist, this 'Grande' model is exceptionally rare and produced in very limited numbers. The lamp is in good vintage condition, showing some minor scratches on the glass panels consistent with its age and use.
