The Vitra EA 222, produced to a design by Charles and Ray Eames in 1969, is a timeless chair with a classic design status. It is one of many versions of the aluminum chair. As an armchair, the Soft Pad Chair also follows the well-known recipe for success of the Aluminum Chair Group: the leather upholstery is clamped between the two side panels, stretched with two crossbars, and rolled tightly over two aluminum bars at the top and bottom. This makes the cover both firm and flexible. The five polyurethane foam cushions sewn to the stretched upholstery and the infinitely variable backrest mechanism provide exceptional comfort. Like the side panels and armrests, the 360° swivel frame is also made of die-cast aluminum. The EA 222 armchair is more luxurious and softer than the aluminum chairs in the group. Combined with the EA 223 stool, it becomes a pleasantly comfortable lounge chair with a footrest.

The Vitra EA 223 is a stool with excellent seating comfort. Designed in 1969 as part of the complementary Soft Pad series from the Aluminium Group, it offers a pleasantly upholstered seating experience – both as a stool and a footrest. The design principle is very similar to that of the Aluminium Chairs. The leather upholstery is clamped into the side profiles and stretched over two crossbars. This simultaneously gives the surface the necessary strength and flexibility. Furthermore, the polyurethane seat padding of the EA 223 is also firmly sewn to the seat. The four-star base, side profiles, and clamps are made of chrome-plated or polished die-cast aluminum. The EA 223 stool by Vitra is most often used where the EA 222 armchair is: in hotel lounges, in the home, and anywhere else where it's easy to rest and relax. It is the ideal complement to the EA 222 swivel chair.
