But what timeless charm this small work table (or sewing table) from the Napoleon III period (19th century) possesses!
With its compact size and elegant silhouette, it is crafted from ebonized wood and papier-mâché and features delicate hand-painted decoration. The top is adorned with a bouquet of flowers in powdery hues, while the base is highlighted with fine scrolls and gilt trim.
The drop-leaf opens to reveal its original interior, entirely lined with antique wallpaper featuring motifs typical of the period.
The inside of the lid conceals a mirror with a beautifully aged silvering.
Its compact dimensions make it an ideal occasional piece of furniture. It would be perfectly at home as a bedside table in a bedroom, as a poetic entryway console, or as a small decorative storage unit in a living room to hold flowers or your treasured possessions.
In good overall condition, with wear consistent with its age. The key is missing, but the door opens without it.
