Description
Deep River illustrates the full artistic maturity of Silvin Bronkart, a period in which his pictorial language reached a remarkable lyrical intensity and chromatic depth.
The composition, dominated by deep blues and incandescent oranges, evokes a fluid and shifting space, permeated by light.
The layers of paint, applied in successive glazes, produce an almost organic effect of depth. The paint, sometimes dense, sometimes diaphanous, suggests an inner movement, a circulation of energy that lends the whole a meditative dimension.
The title, Deep River, finds direct resonance in the very structure of the work: a chromatic flow where transparency, density, and luminous vibration intertwine. Bronkart explores the boundary between abstraction and suggestion, transforming color into a spiritual language.
Condition
The work is in good overall condition.
The panel is stable, and the painted surface is generally well preserved.
There are a few small areas of paint loss and very fine, insignificant scratches, mainly located in the darker areas. These alterations remain minor and do not affect the readability or the overall aesthetic integrity.
The original simple wooden frame shows signs of wear and light scratches, consistent with the age of the work. The piece remains cohesive and remarkably authentic.

Biography
Silvin Bronkart (1915–1967) occupies a pivotal place in the history of abstract art in Belgium. Active in Liège, he was a major figure in the post-war artistic revival and a founding member of the "Réalité Cobra" group, which extended the spirit of the CoBrA movement within the Belgian context.
His work, marked by a tension between rigorous construction and gestural freedom, explores the internal structure of form and the dynamics of color. In the 1950s, he focused on an architectural abstraction, before evolving, from 1960 onward, toward a more intuitive and luminous style of painting, where matter becomes the vehicle for emotion.
Deep River fully embodies this evolution: a mature work where color, light, and depth combine to express the inner dimension of Walloon modernity.
