A beautiful antique silver-plated set comprising a covered coffee pot and sugar bowl, made by the Parisian house Armand Frénais. Active in Paris from 1877, Armand Frénais belongs to that generation of silversmiths who elevated French tableware to a very high level of quality at the end of the 19th century. His creations in "Métal Parisien", an alloy specially designed to receive silver-plating, are distinguished by their decorative abundance, their beautiful presence, and particularly meticulous work on the reliefs. Both pieces feature a generously curved shape resting on small claw feet. The decoration combines rocaille volutes, flowers, rinceaux, and flowing cartouches, in a spirit directly inherited from the 18th century and reinterpreted in the historicist manner of the Belle Époque. The flower-shaped lid finials and sculpted handles add remarkable richness to the set. The sugar bowl still retains its luminous gilt interior, which creates a beautiful contrast with the exterior silver-plated metal's patina. Both pieces bear on the reverse the marking "Métal Parisien – Armand Frénais" as well as the house's hallmarks. The set has retained its full presence despite the marks of its history. The metal shows an antique patina, scratches, and traces of use consistent with its age. The sugar bowl remains very decorative and complete. On the coffee pot, the lid is detached at its hinge and would need to be re-soldered if one wished to restore its original functionality. The lid is present and accompanies the piece. The photographs precisely show this condition.
