This unique set originates from the Rif region in Northern Morocco and is made according to centuries-old Amazigh (Berber) traditions. This type of rural pottery was built entirely by hand by local women (without a potter's wheel) and then fired in a traditional open fire pit. Features & Details: * Origin: Rif Mountains, Morocco (Tribal Art / Ethnography). * Material: Unglazed, low-fired terracotta. The bottom and interior have been left completely authentically unworked. * Decoration: Traditional geometric Berber symbols (zigzag and star shapes) symbolizing protection and fertility. * Pigments: Applied entirely naturally with manganese (black/dark brown) and iron oxide (red and ochre yellow). * Age: Estimated mid-20th century (approx. 1950-1970). Dimensions: * Large pot: 14 cm high | 13 cm diameter * Small pot: 8 cm high | 8 cm diameter
Condition and Patina:
The jars are in beautiful vintage/antique condition with incredible character. They have the characteristic dry, chalky texture of authentic old terracotta. A natural, weathered patina is visible on the knobs of the lids due to decades of household use (for storing spices or salt). The inside has turned a beautiful dark color due to use over the years. No cracks, the lids close well.
