This set of two original Bauhaus armchairs was designed by O. Zoufalý in (Brno) Czechoslovakia during the 1930s. The design exemplifies the functionalist ethos of the era, combining a continuous tubular steel frame with generously proportioned, channel-tufted seating.
The armchairs feature a cantilevered chrome-plated tubular steel structure that provides a subtle, resilient bounce characteristic of early modernist seating. The armrests are finished in polished wood, offering a warm tactile contrast to the cool metal. The seats and backs are upholstered in a patterned textile in shades of red and beige, featuring a distinctive geometric weave. The channel-tufted backrests enhance both comfort and visual rhythm.
The chairs remain in good vintage condition, retaining their structural integrity and original character. The chrome frames show a natural patina consistent with age, while the upholstery and wooden armrests reflect their history of use.
These armchairs are well-suited for a modernist interior, a study, or a reading corner. They pair effectively with glass or wood side tables and complement both vintage and contemporary design schemes.
