Product description
Beautiful set of four vintage dining chairs, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by the AwA Furniture Factory in the 1960s. Although this model is often referred to as the ‘Scissor Chair’, no known documentation can be found for this. However, in an old interior design brochure, this model is referred to by Lebro Oirschot as the ‘Astrid’ chair.
This set originates from Maastricht and has always remained within the same family. The chairs have been used with care and love, but were eventually offered for sale due to the poor condition of the seats.
In our workshop, the chairs have been carefully inspected and restored, preserving their original character. The frames are in beautiful vintage condition and have developed a rich patina over the years. A scratch here and there or a subtle dent: it is precisely these traces of use that contribute to the charm and authenticity of the set.
The solid teak frames have been thoroughly cleaned and refinished, bringing out the beautiful warm wood color once again. The seats and backrests feature new foam and are upholstered in a high-quality green wool fabric that complements the warm teak beautifully and gives the chairs a soft, luxurious look. Thanks to the wide backrest and comfortable seat, these are chairs on which you can effortlessly spend long evenings at the table.
What makes this model so special is the distinctly scissor-inspired design. The design appears airy, while the construction is actually very sturdy. The organic lines, refined joints, and elegant proportions immediately reveal the hand of Van Teeffelen. Clearly inspired by Scandinavian aesthetics, yet unmistakably high-quality Dutch design.
