Great set of Dutch Design chairs designed by designer Rudolf Wolf.
I have 6, but unfortunately only room for 4 in the house, so these two may go to a new lover!
These chairs are from the so-called Meander series designed by Rudolf Wolf in the 1960s. Produced at van Gaasbeek & van Tiel in the Netherlands. The frames are made of metal and completely black lacquered, strikingly, the width between the front and back legs differ from each other.
They are upholstered in solid red fabric, which does show some discoloration/use marks. Possibly re-upholstered.

Rudolf Wolf was one of the most important industrial designers from the Netherlands and started early on with total design, everything had to be right was his credo, from packaging and advertising to after sales. After a short period at various firms specialized in architecture, he started his own company. In the mid-1950s he focused on designing furniture for various manufacturers, and in the early 1960s he was also asked to be the in-house designer for the Batavus bicycle factory, designing various mopeds.
As early as 1955, he designed a very ingenious design for the Elsrijk company that was put together in a special way by means of special welding, creating a very stable base with minimal lines.
In 1964 the Meander Gamma series followed, of which the Alpha was designed as a "kitchen chair" and Beta and Gamma tended more towards an armchair. The so-called easy chair Gamma would even be named best furniture design of that year by the American Institute for International Designers in 1964.
