Product description
A fantastic set of four vintage dining chairs, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by the Wébé furniture factory in the 1960s (marked). In the original brochure, this model is listed as the "Milan," part of a set with a matching dining table.
We collected this set from the estate of the original owners in Gorinchem. Due to a change in their interior, they were given a new home. However, the chairs were in rather poor condition: the foam was worn, the upholstery was outdated, and the frames could also use some TLC.
Therefore, they were fully restored in our workshop. Originally upholstered in black faux leather, we discovered the original yellow fabric underneath! A lovely find, but unfortunately, this too could not be saved. Both the seats and backrests have been fitted with new foam and reupholstered in a rich green bouclé fabric called Odense. The seating comfort is now better than ever, thanks in part to the generous, wide backrest.
The teak frames have been thoroughly cleaned and refinished, beautifully revealing their warm, deep color. Several wood joints have been reglued, making the frames stable and sturdy once again. You can feel the quality in the construction and the weight; you see pure Dutch craftsmanship here.
Despite the dark tones of the wood and fabric, the overall effect is surprisingly airy. The slender legs and brass spacers in the back give the chairs an elegant, chic look. Typical of Teeffelen: everything is perfect, everything is well-thought-out. With clear influences from Danish aesthetics, but we wholeheartedly claim this as Dutch design!
