Beautiful set of four rare vintage dining chairs from the Dutch furniture factory AwA, produced in the 1960s. It is believed that Louis van Teeffelen also created designs for AwA during that period, and although this has not been confirmed with certainty, these chairs clearly display characteristics of his elegant and organic design language.
This set originates from Utrecht and was used for some time by a young couple. Upon arrival at our workshop, the chairs still featured their original upholstery, beautifully demonstrating how carefully they have been preserved over the years.
During the restoration, great care was taken to preserve the original character. The teak frames were thoroughly cleaned and re-nourished, allowing the wood to fully regain its deep, warm, and rich color. The old foam was completely replaced, and the chairs were reupholstered with a high-quality yellow wool fabric, a shade virtually identical to the original upholstery. The result creates a beautiful, vibrant contrast with the dark frames. The design immediately stands out due to its refined lines and balanced shapes; the chairs exude elegance: organic, airy, and thought out down to the last detail. The construction and wood joints are a testament to honest Dutch craftsmanship, precisely and clearly made by hand. Unmatched by machine production.
In terms of seating comfort, this set is also completely convincing. The high backrests combined with the new foam make it a chair on which you can effortlessly linger at the table all evening. A special detail is the brass decorative balls on the backrest, which create a subtle floating effect. A beautiful example of Dutch design from the 1960s, with clear influences from Scandinavian aesthetics.
