Beautiful set of four vintage dining chairs, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by the Wébé furniture factory in the 1960s. In the original brochure, this model is known as ‘Hamar’. In addition to the version with an upholstered back, a variant with a wooden backrest was also available.
We picked up the chairs in Haarlem from a lady who loved thrifting. She had used them for years but eventually replaced them. The chairs still had their original grey/blue faux leather upholstery, which had since partially discolored to brown.
The chairs have been carefully restored in our workshop. As a result, the teak frames have regained their deep, warm color, giving them a very cozy appearance. The wood displays a rich patina, which has been deliberately left as is to preserve the character of the chairs. In a previous life, one wood joint was reinforced rather amateurishly; this is still visible. Structurally, all chairs are very sturdy! The old upholstery and filling have been replaced with sturdy foam and a fresh, ochre-yellow fabric named Nuance. Up close, you can see subtle colors showing through, giving the fabric a playful effect. This creates a beautiful contrast with the dark-colored frames and allows the original design to come fully into its own. In terms of seating comfort, the Hamar is more than satisfactory: the design features a wide seat and a backrest that embraces you, as it were.
And then the frames… wow! The double, graceful spindles under the seat give the chairs an elegant, almost sculptural appearance. You immediately see the hand of Louis van Teeffelen: refined, stylish, and with an eye for detail. Truly a timeless set of chairs that exudes class and finds its place in both modern and mid-century dining rooms.
