A fantastic set of four vintage dining chairs, also known as the "Snavel" model, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced in the 1960s by the AwA furniture factory in Almelo. We picked up this set in Groningen from the original owners.
When we picked them up, these chairs were in dire need of a makeover. The seats were upholstered in a thin turquoise fabric, the foam had deteriorated, and the frames were dried out. A serious project indeed. Fortunately, we're used to a lot of work and were able to completely restore the chairs.
The seats are upholstered with new, firm foam and high-quality leather upholstery. The black leather complements the dark frames perfectly, giving the whole a luxurious and elegant look.
The teak frames have been thoroughly cleaned and refinished, restoring the wood's original 1960s charm. The frames are beautifully organically shaped, and the ends at the front resemble, yes, beaks! Truly a feast for the eyes. Also note the decorative brass balls on the backrest; they give the armrests the illusion of floating, a nice detail.
Despite our spa treatment, the chairs still have some slight imperfections. That's precisely what gives them extra character, that's how it should be seen. Simply beautiful Dutch design and rock-solid. Ready for the next 60 years!
