Set of six “Medea” chairs designed by Vittorio Nobili for Tagliabue Fratelli, featuring molded mahogany shells and metal legs.
Set of six “Medea” chairs designed by Vittorio Nobili for the Italian manufacturer Tagliabue Fratelli in the 1950s, one of the most recognizable designs of post-war Italian furniture. The model emerged from the collaboration between architects and the skilled craftsmen of the Brianza furniture industry, particularly the cabinetmaking workshop Tagliabue Fratelli, where Medea experimented with innovative molded wood techniques. The chair features a curved molded mahogany shell, defined by smooth and enveloping lines without sharp edges and shaped to follow the natural inclination of the body. The design stands out for its refined balance between solids and voids, emphasized by the oval opening at the lower backrest. The shell rests on slender black metal legs, creating a refined contrast between materials. The chair received an Honourable Mention at the Compasso d’Oro in 1956, confirming its importance within the history of Italian design, becoming one of the iconic seating designs of mid-century Italian modernism. Good condition. May show signs of age. Please pay attention to the photographs.
