Product description
Designed by the Danish duo Schiønning & Elgaard, this set of six dining chairs is characterised by an unusually fluid frame construction and carefully balanced proportions. The slender legs continue almost uninterrupted into the rear uprights, while the side rails rise towards the back in broad, sculpted curves. This gives the chairs a light profile while retaining a strong sense of structure. The wide, gently curved backrests follow the line of the body and are finished with softly rounded edges, their warm teak grain remaining an important visual element from every angle.
Particularly distinctive is the transition between the legs, seat frame and back supports. Rather than relying on separate angular components, the timber has been shaped into continuous sweeping junctions, with subtle recessed openings beneath the seat emphasising the chair’s construction. Small brass spacers between the upholstered seat and frame provide both a functional and decorative detail, creating a narrow shadow line that makes the seat appear slightly suspended above the timber structure.
The warm reddish-brown teak is complemented by newly upholstered seats in a restrained light beige woven fabric. The softly rounded seat profile mirrors the curves of the backrest and frame without adding unnecessary visual weight. Together, the combination of sculpted timber, slim proportions and contrasting upholstery gives the set the quietly expressive character associated with Danish furniture of the 1960s.
The chairs have been carefully cleaned and fully inspected. The wooden frames have been treated with a high-quality furniture oil, restoring depth to the teak while retaining the natural character of the material. The seats have been renewed with fresh upholstery, leaving the set in very good restored vintage condition with only minor signs of age and use remaining.
