Set of 5 Danish Dining Chairs, attributed to Arne Hovmand-Olsen, Denmark, 1960s
This set of five Danish dining chairs reflects the quiet refinement of mid-century Danish cabinetmaking. Every element has been carefully resolved, from the gently arched crest rail to the tapering rear uprights that flow uninterrupted into the back legs. The restrained silhouette relies on subtle shaping rather than ornament, creating a design that feels both light and assured.
Crafted in solid teak, the chairs display a warm, even grain and finely finished surfaces throughout. The softly rounded crest rail provides comfortable support, while the slim frame and tapered legs give the chairs an elegant visual lightness. The generously proportioned seats appear almost suspended within the frame, their new black upholstery offering a crisp contrast to the rich tone of the teak and emphasising the clean geometry of the construction.
Examples of this model have regularly appeared on the secondary market attributed to Danish designer Arne Hovmand-Olsen. While the design language is certainly consistent with his work, no period catalogue, manufacturer's mark or other primary documentation confirming this attribution has yet been identified. They are therefore offered here as attributed to Arne Hovmand-Olsen.
The chairs have been carefully cleaned, fully inspected and the teak has been treated with a high-quality furniture oil, enhancing the depth and warmth of the timber while preserving its natural character. The seats have been newly upholstered in black upholstery, and the set presents in excellent vintage condition with only light signs of age consistent with careful use.
