Exceptional matching set of four vintage wall sconces, combining richly ornamented gold-tone metalwork with beautiful deep aubergine-coloured glass. Each wall light features a convex coloured-glass medallion on the backplate and a matching aubergine glass bobeche beneath the candle-style light fitting. Depending on the light, the glass changes visually from almost black and deep plum to luminous purple/aubergine. The elegant curved arms, floral and palmette decoration and classical detailing give the sconces a distinctive Hollywood Regency / Neoclassical / Empire Revival character. A particularly attractive set for symmetrical installation in an entrance hall, living or dining room, bedroom, or on either side of mirrors, doors and artworks.
