Story: Four tubular chrome chairs. Found as a set, stripped back, fully reupholstered in my atelier.
The frames were worth keeping. Clean welds, original chrome plating, no rust, no wobble. That kind of structure doesn't get built anymore. The seats and backs were tired.
I went chartreuse velvet. A colour that argues with the chrome instead of matching it. That tension is the whole point of the piece.
Styling: Around a dark walnut or oak table, they hold the room. In a soft interior, they cut through it. In a saturated palette, they answer back. They function as a complete set of four, or split — two at a writing table, four around a dining table, one as a standalone piece in a hallway.
This is what I do: existing structure, radical colour decision, executed at finish quality that lasts.
Origin: 1970s European production, chrome-plated tubular steel, manufacturer unmarked.
Redesigned (in my atelier, Belgium): Frames cleaned, polished, original chrome preserved, full reupholstery: new high-density foam, lime/chartreuse velvet (60k Martindale, commercial-grade, suitable for daily use), new feet and chrome caps
Condition: Frames original chrome with light patina consistent with period — visible only on close inspection. Upholstery new. Structurally sound. Ready for daily use.
