This set of four 'Cirkel-1' dining chairs was designed by Karel Boonzaaijer and Pierre Mazairac for Metaform in the 1970s. The design is characterized by the striking tubular construction that seamlessly transitions into the armrests, giving the chairs a distinct architectural character.
The chairs feature a brushed steel frame and are upholstered in turquoise leather. The combination of the cool metal and the rich, dark green upholstery creates a strong visual contrast. The construction shows the influence of modernism, where functionality and design go hand in hand.
The armrests are not too high, allowing them to easily fit under a table.
The set is in used condition commensurate with age and use, while maintaining structural integrity. The leather shows some wear on the seat, but only the paint has chipped off (see detail photos); there are certainly no tears. One backrest has been reattached with 2 screws instead of the original bolts. A set with signs of use, but still an eye-catcher!
These dining chairs come into their own perfectly in a modern or industrial interior. They form a strong addition around a minimalist dining table, where their sculptural lines can define the space.
